Open hearts, open minds, and open doors

All People Matter at Garner UMC

Welcome to a place where faith meets heartfelt inclusivity. At Garner United Methodist Church, we are guided by the values of the United Methodist Church, emphasizing open hearts, open minds, and open doors. We believe in the transformative power of God’s love and grace, which calls us to welcome and affirm all individuals, regardless of their background, identity, or life story. Our beliefs are rooted in the teachings of Jesus Christ, who showed us the way of love, service, and compassion towards everyone. Here, we strive to create a supportive community that encourages spiritual growth, social justice, and the pursuit of peace. Join us as we journey together in faith, exploring the depths of God’s word and its relevance in our lives today.

Why Do Beliefs Matter?

Our beliefs are central to who we are, not only because they define us, but because they have the power to unite us. While we may encounter differences in our religious perspectives, the shared values and common faith that we hold bring us closer and give us much to celebrate together.

Our faith is meant to be dynamic, encouraging deep reflection and dialogue. As you navigate through life, your beliefs will inevitably adapt and grow, influenced by new experiences and insights. Rather than constrain us, our beliefs offer a structure that supports our spiritual development and deepening understanding.

As United Methodists, we are part of a broader Christian community, sharing core principles that bind us to believers worldwide. Our foundational beliefs, outlined in “The Book of Discipline,” echo the universal affirmations of Christianity. We invite you to use the links on this page to delve into our views on God, humanity, the church, the Bible, and more, as we explore these profound topics together.

UMC Beliefs

God

God, who is one, is revealed in three distinct persons.

Jesus

We believe in the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. God became human in Jesus of Nazareth; and his life, death and resurrection demonstrates God’s redeeming love.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is God’s present activity in our midst. When we sense God’s leading, God’s challenge, or God’s support or comfort, it’s the Holy Spirit at work.

Human Beings

Genesis 1:27 asserts that we’ve been made in the image of the Creator. Like God we have the capacity to love and care, to communicate, and to create.

The Church

The church is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today.

The Bible

We believe that the Bible is the primary authority for our faith and practice.

God’s Reign

The kingdom or reign of God is both a present reality and future hope.
