About the Glass

Sanctuary Window

The window’s symbolism is an expression of the 20th Century. It was designed by artist Eugene Marggraff, and installed by Universal Studios, Inc, of Winona, Minnesota, in the 1960’s.

Trinity Topmost

The Father, Son and Holy Spirit are represented in the highest levels. At the peak, the hand of God points downward, through the creation of the world (and the atom) showing the representation of God as the Alpha and the Omega.

Chapel Windows

A chapel is a place of worship. Some of the functions that take place in a chapel are baptisms, marriages, and on occasions, funerals. The artist here has tried to depict these three important events in the life of a Christian and yet try to combine the windows as one.

Window No. 1 – Baptism

The baptismal shell is superimposed upon a cross.  At the bottom of the cross it curves to show an anchor representing Faith. This symbol is used  to show the Baptism of Christ by St. John. The Holy Spirit is  shown by the dove at the top. The water running down to the fish. The fish represent Christians  being baptized, such as Christ being baptized by St. John.

Window No. 2– Marriage

The two rings are interwoven and superimposed  upon the Chi Rho, which is the Greek meaning of Christ. The two little Roses represent  nature, such as the growth of a family.

Window No. 3– Funerals

At the bottom of the window the withered tree represents death such as all things will wither and die on this earth. But, death need be but another event in the life of one who is adhering to Christian principles.  The reward and glories in heaven are great for those who have sacrificed in this world.

The crown superimposed upon the green cross  of Hope indicates victory such Christ has  overcome death, so we shall overcome death.

The Trinity is  indicated by the  Father showing the  hand on the third window  to the Son in the center of the wedding in the second window to the Holy Spirit in the first window.

The Rainbow shows the Heaven and the green at the bottom shows the Earth.  The lines that draw together in the center panel show the union of the two spirits in marriage.
